As much as I found it hard to believe at first, view the statistics below, and make your own judgement.
Number of physicians in the US = 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year = 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician = 0.171 (U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services)
Number of gun owners in the US = 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year = 1,500 (all age groups)
Accidental deaths per gun owner = 0.0000188 (U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms)
Therefore, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Taken from the Benton County News Tribune of November 17, 1999.
That's rediculous. Of course the statistic for doctors is going to be larger, because they have to doa surgery on the body. Gun owners have their"accidents" by choice. I understand, doctors make mistakes, they're human. But that's part of the risk taken when you go into surgery.
ReplyDeleteAsk any gun owner who's ever had a negligent discharge, and they'll tell you, it was NEVER by choice. That's why it's called "accidental."
ReplyDeleteGun owners are human too! A FACT that the anti-freedom crowd tries to bury. They try to villainize us, make us look like monsters, even though we are law-abiding citizens, just as much if not more so than they are.
I've owned firearms since I was 18, and I've not shot anyone (accidentally) yet. I guess that makes me "defective?" ;-)
