Going Hunting? Get Training!!!

If you live in California, and you like to hunt, you have my condolences.  But, if you've never hunted before, you should consider a hunter safety course.  Seriously.  It can mean the difference between life and death.  Anyone, who's never been hunting, regardless of how long they've been around firearms, should take one.  And, check your state laws, it might be required to get your hunting license!

An old "love" returns home

The was the first major caliber handgun I ever owned. My mother bought it for me about 1975 or 76. I don't remember the exact year, but, it was a long time ago. I kept that one for a number of years, but eventually sold it. It wasn't until later that I realized the mistake I made. The Ruger revolver is one of the finest ever made. And after some searching, I finally found one. (Thank you Gunbroker.com).

My Latest Love interest

It is a Rock Island Armory M1911-A1FS, caliber .45ACP. Yes, it's nickel plated and shiny as all get out.

And no, that stuff near the muzzle is not some marring, it's a reflection.

The Open Carry Movement

For those of you who are not aware, Open Carry is sweeping across the country. At least, in those states where it is legal to do so. Interestingly enough, it's not legal in Texas!! Apparently this goes back to the post Civil War days (That's the War Between the States for you Southern sympathizers. ) I suppose this was to cut down on violence against the former slaves, as well as the occupation forces sent down by the Northern invaders.

I understand that now, Texas is looking into making Open carry legal again. Even for those in Texas with a CCW permit, this would be a welcome change, since as of now, if you have a CCW permit, and your pistol should become visible, you could face charges and lose your permit.

For myself, I live in Michigan, which is an Open Carry state. I have, and do carry openly, when I consider it practicable. However, I also know there are times and places when OC (the current shorthand for Open Carry) is either not prudent, or not practicable. (I like using that word, picked it from the movie "Gods and Generals" )

What I will add here is this, if you choose to OC, make sure you know the laws for your state, and local area, if applicable. It would be bad to end up in jail, just because you missed some rule about OC in your state. Check out OpenCarry dot Org for more details.

Don't take your guns to Shreveport.

Shreveport Citizens Disarmed By Police For 2nd Amendment Bumper Stickers

Argue With Everyone
July 7, 2009

Welcome to Shreveport: Your rights are now suspended.According to Cedric Glover, mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana, his cops “have a power that [. . .] the President of these Unites States does not have”: His cops can take away your rights.
(To read the whole story, click on the title of this article)

Better yet, leave your bumper stickers at home. When you get pulled over, because you have some political bumper stickers that the cops don't like? Well, slap on a black shirt and yell "Sieg Heil!" Welcome to the fourth Reich!

Follow up to Tennessee gun laws

It's come to my attention that some people think I'm critical of the new law in Tennessee that allows CCW holders to go into establishments that serve alcohol with their guns.

On the contrary, I think it's a GREAT change in their handgun permit law. People who take the time, trouble, and spend the money to get a permit so they can legally defend themselves from the bad guys (Who, by the way will NEVER obey a law that says they can't carry a gun) should be considered trustworthy enough to let them take their gun, ANYWHERE they are legally allowed to be.

And for those who think there are too many guns on the street, get the bad guys to quit packing, and I will too....nah, I lied.

I think it's silly to give someone a permit/license that says the can carry a gun to defend themselves, then turn around and say, "Wait!! You can defend yourself here, but not here. It's ok to carry your gun in this store, but not that one."

It kind of defeats the purpose, don't you think?

And no, I don't have anything better to do in Michigan right now.

A NATION OF COWARDS

A NATION OF COWARDS
by Jeffrey R. Snyder

OUR SOCIETY has reached a pinnacle of self-expression and respect for individuality rare or unmatched in history. Our entire popular culture -- from fashion magazines to the cinema -- positively screams the matchless worth of the individual, and glories in eccentricity, nonconformity, independent judgment, and self-determination. This enthusiasm is reflected in the prevalent notion that helping someone entails increasing that person's "self-esteem"; that if a person properly values himself, he will naturally be a happy, productive, and, in some inexplicable fashion, responsible
member of society.

And yet, while people are encouraged to revel in their individuality and incalculable self-worth, the media and the law enforcement establishment continually advise us that, when confronted with the threat of lethal violence, we should not resist, but simply give the attacker what he wants. If the crime under consideration is rape, there is some notable waffling on this point, and the discussion quickly moves to how the woman can change her behavior to minimize the risk of rape, and the various ridiculous, non-lethal weapons she may acceptably carry, such as whistles, keys, mace or, that weapon which really sends shivers down a rapist's spine, the portable cellular phone......(To read the rest, click on the title of this post, or click here.)

I wish I could take credit for this one. It certainly voices just about all my thoughts on self-defense, civil rights, and the proper role of government.

Support the 2nd Amendment

The following is a copy of a petition to Support the Second Amendment. The only difference is I made a spelling correction, and the links are active.

The petition was created and written by Robert Ault.
To: U.S. Congress

In response to the YouTube video showing the British in the largest peaceful march in their history, asserting their right to bear arms:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTq2NEUlhDE

We the people of the United States of America sign this petition affirming our beliefs in the governing laws and regulations set forth in the Constitution of the United States of America. In particular we support the forth article in the Bill of Rights which states the right of the people to keep and bear arms:

Article the fourth [Amendment II][4]
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The constitution can be read in its entirety online at:
http://www.constitution.org/constit_.htm

Along with the full Bill of Rights submitted as explanatory and restrictive clauses to the constitution:
http://www.constitution.org/billofr_.htm

Lastly the additional amendments that have been added over the course of history:
http://www.constitution.org/afterte_.htm

If you agree with these statements in particular the right to keep (own) and bear (carry) guns then please sign this petition asserting your support. This petition is not the result of a law that has been enacted infringing our rights to keep and bear arms but affirms your support of those rights.

A recent estimate of the population in the United States (Jan. 2009) was 310 million. The goal of this petition is to collect 1% of all American's (3.1 million) signatures at which time it will be submitted to our US Congress to remind them whose interests they are representing.

Remember to send the link to everyone you know so that they have a chance to decide their support.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

P.S. I have no idea what "Article the fourth" means. I presume it's something in regard to the original webpage, http://www.constitution.org/billofr_.htm.
